Abstract
Visual Axis Opacification (VAO) is the most common complication post paediatric cataract surgery, especially in children <1 year of age. Surgical membranectomy with a vitrector via limbal approach is a very safe and effective technique for managing thick Posterior Capsular Opacification (PCO). In this case, a 2 year old child was left aphakic post primary cataract surgery at 8 months of age. This video demonstrates surgical membranectomy using a combination of vannas scissors and vitrectomy cutter after insertion of three piece IOL. It is important to note that placing the IOL before vitrectomy helps in good centration of the IOL and also prevents posterior dislocation of the same. Triamcinolone assisted vitrectomy aids in ensuring vitreous free anterior chamber and also helps prevent inflammation and re-membrane formation.
