Abstract
A retrospective study was done in a rural eye hospital in India.Thirty eight eyes were included with posterior capsular rent or deficient capsular support.Patients with decompensated cornea, diabetic eye disease, glaucoma and intraoperative complications were excluded. Preoperative and post operatively patients were examined for visual acuity, intra ocular pressure and slit lamp examination of anterior and posterior segment. All patients underwent anterior vitectomy with retro pupillary iris claw implantation with peripheral iridectomy and were followed up till six months.Post operatively five patients developed vitritis out which one required surgical management and others were managed medically. Two patients had dislocated lens which needed surgical revision and two patients had choroidal detachment which was managed medically.Irregular pupil was noted in four patients.Mean visual acuity was 0.42.Retro pupillary iris claw lens is a useful and safe option in limited resource settings.
