Abstract
The incidence of IOL calcification is low. It is a multifactorial problem, mainly depends on the polymer of IOL. Calcification can occur on the IOL surface or within the substance of the optic. Visually significant iol calcification warrants a IOL exchange. Here we present a case report of a 60 year old male operated for cataract 2 years back who presented with a VA of CFCF. On examination the IOL(optic and haptic) was found to be opacified. Intra operatively during the IOL explantation the IOL was found to be tilting into the vitreous superiorly after it has been freed from the capsular bag. The capsular bag stability was compromised and so a SFIOL has been implanted. Post operatively the patient had a visual acuity 6/9. Histopathology study with Alizarin stain and Von kossa stain shows calcium deposition within the lens optics, distributed parallel to anterior and posterior curvatures of the optic with a clear zone beneath the optic surface. no indian case report as such till date.
