Abstract
Aim:To evaluate the presence of mature(MC)or hypermature cataract(HMC)in patients with pseudophakia in one eye and the reason for impediment in surgery and complications due to it.Methods:It is a retrospective study conducted over 5 years.Out of 2925 patients,221 had MC and HMC in one eye and pseudophakia in the other.Details regarding demography,BCVA,first cataract surgery, cause for delay in the other eye surgery, paid surgery or camp based surgeries were collected.Complications due to the maturity of cataract were noted. Results:Out of 221,patients having MC,HMC were 52.94% and 47.06%.Complications like Lens induced glaucoma(8),argentina flag sign(12),zonular dialysis(4)and SFIOL use(2)were seen. Conclusion:Patients having pseudophakia in one eye tend to be negligent towards the other. An awareness should be created regarding timing of cataract surgery to prevent complications.Delay in cataract surgery could be due to negligence, financial constraints and preference for camp surgeries.
