Abstract
introduction-Pediatric traumatic cataract is one of causes of monocular blindness in children, accounts for 29%-57% cases. Pediatric eye is in development, trauma leads to severe cx
methods -Retrospective analysis of cohort during last 3 years at tertiary eye center. Retrieval of data from EMR and analysis by SPS22. Description and cross tabulation used for analysis. Causative agents, types of trauma, sx , Cx , VA compared among different groups.
result- total of 681 children underwent traumatic cataract sx in the study period. Type of primary insult was penetrating inj in 443 (65%) pts, blunt trauma in 237 (34.8%) pts. 9 pts vision better than 6/18 and 57 pts vision of ≥6/60. VA of 6/18 or better considered good VA. Eyes which underwent PPC and ant vit during cataract surgery showed statistically better visual outcome than those without it.
conclusion-Pediatric traumatic cat should be treated in time to lower complications and need for early detection of cataract in children.
