Abstract
Purpose: To study regarding rare bacterial organisms which can cause severe corneal infection and their successful management.
Methods: : A retrospective case review was done for patients having corneal infection by rare bacterial organisms from Jan 2018 to Dec 2019. Three cases of corneal infection by rare bacterial organisms ie Pseudomonas Stutzeri, Acinetobacter Baumannii and Pseudomonas aeruginosa resistant to most of antibiotics could be found. These cases posed diagnostic dilemma, however end results were very satisfactory.
Results: All three cases had different clinical presentations . Patients had very severe corneal ulcers not responding to any antimicrobials. As a last resort, they were treated with topical colistin (0.19%) fortified eye drops and they had remarkable response and ulcer healed.
Conclusion: Corneal ulcer poses diagnostic dilemma during treatment. Rare causes of corneal ulcer should be kept in mind when the ulcer is not responding to conventional treatment.
