Abstract

OBJECTIVE –To assess the outcome of SLET in patients with LSCD & to see the reversal of its features. MATERIALS & METHODS –Prospective observational study on 11 eyes with LSCD and neovascularization who underwent autologous SLET. The success was defined on relative improvement in BCVA, corneal conjunctivalisation and opacification with a follow up period of 6 months. OBSERVATION –Out of 11 patients in our study 6 had chemical burns, 3 thermal burn, 1 Steven Johnson syndrome and 1 recurrent pterygium with neovascularization. At the mean follow-up period of 6 months 8 of the 11 eyes (72.72%) maintained a successful outcome in terms of stable epithelium. In 63.6% of cases, BCVA improved to 5/60 or better. Significant improvement was seen in grade of corneal conjunctivalisation (3 to 0), vascularization (2 to 0) and opacification (2 to 1). CONCLUSION –SLET is single-stage and less expensive effective treatment for unilateral limbal stem cell deficiency.
