Abstract
Aim: To describe results of Manual-Descemet Stripping Endothelial Keratoplasty (DSEK) in eyes with endothelial-dysfunction due to various causes.
Methods: Retrospective study. 7 cases with corneal decompensation who underwent DSEK were reviewed. A standard DSEK with manually-dissected donor lenticules was performed except in 2 cases where descemet membrane was retained. Comprehensive ophthalmic examination was done preoperatively & postoperatively with average follow-up of 10.9 months.
Results: 8 eyes of 7 patients with mean age 64.8 years were included. All corneas remained clear till the last follow-up except a case which showed primary graft-failure and was managed by repeat-DSEK. No case of graft-detachment. Preoperative BCVA was 20/2000 or less & postoperatively it improved to 20/30 in 4 eyes & 1 eye achieved 20/80.
Conclusion: Manual-DSEK has good functional outcome in restoring corneal clarity with minimum complications.
