Abstract

The extensive use of computers in the workplace has led to a rise in visual health concerns, causing significant physical and occupational burden not only in general population but also amongst ophthalmologists. Our study targeted 200 Ophthalmologists (including postgraduate and fellowship students) between 25 to 75 years of age and working in a tertiary eye care hospital.

Analysis on symptomology depicted that headache, dry eyes and burning sensation were the common ocular complaints in respondents spending more than 6 h in using EMR.

Approximately 50% of respondents experienced persistence of symptoms even after working hours. Most of the participants were multitaskers and used more than one digital devices, only 20% of them actively took any measures to reduce the ocular strain out of 40% who experienced dry eye symptoms.

This indicates that ophthalmologists s need to be alerted on the increasing prevalence of DED as well as actively modify workplace aesthetics at its earliest.
