Abstract
Purpose:
To compare the thickness of Central Macula (CMT), Retinal Nerve Fibre layer thickness (RNFLT) & Ganglion Cell Inner Plexiform Layer thickness (GCIPLT) using SD-OCT in hypertensive (Group A) & normotensive (Group B) adults.
Methods:
This Cross-sectional Case Control study analysed the CMT, RNFLT and GCIPLT using SD-OCT for 60 eyes in each in Group.
Results:
The study included 35 & 34 patients in group A & B. CMT in group A & B was 251.03±18.25 μm & 256.77±15.09 μm. GCIPLT in superior & inferior quadrant was 98.76±9 μm & 100.95±8.65 μm in group A and 97.61±7.75 μm & 100.07±7.01 μm in group B. The average RNFLT in group A & B was 102.25+ 12.81 μm & 98.04 +10.61 μm. In sub group analysis the RNFLT in nasal quadrant in group A & B was 79.76+13.80 μm & 71.25 + 14.93 μm which was statistically significant (p-value <0.05%). Conclusion: While analysing OCT parameters systemic hypertension should be taken into consideration as it affects the retinal thickness.
