Abstract
A 65-y old male came with DOV in the LE since 6 months. Vision in the RE-6/36p,LE-CFCF.Anterior segment evaluation revealed nuclear sclerosis with PSC in both eyes. Dilated fundus examination was normal. LE SICS with PCIOL was performed. Intraoperative and post operative was uneventful .On follow up ,vision was 6/60 and Patient was then evaluated further for possible optic nerve and retinal pathology .Fundus autofluorescence & OCT was advised. Fundus autofluorescence revealed central hypoflurescence with a rim of hyperflurescence and oct showed foveal thinning with loss of layers and increased reflectivity at the level of RPE and ellipsoid zone with decreased choroidal thickness and the other eye also revealed early macular degeneration. This case signifies the need of imaging based evaluation of retina before cataract surgery to rule out the possible retinal pathologies like ARMD in individuals above 60 years which can help the surgeon prognosticate realistically.
