Abstract
Any retinal vascular occlusion more so in a very young age, should have a multidisciplinary approach while treating, as it might be the initial presentation of systemic diseases. Here we are reporting a case of 17 years old young girl who presented to us with sudden painless loss of vision in left eye, diagnosed as Central retinal artery occlusion(CRAO) of left eye. On cross consultation and subjecting the patient for thorough systemic workup for vascular occlusion, a final diagnosis of Type IV Takayasu arteritis(TA) was made. Though TA affects large and medium sized vessels, small vessel involvement is rare, but they do occur. But surprisingly here TA itself manifested as CRAO which is very uncommon. Hence high index of suspicion and subjecting for thorough systemic evaluation can be life saving for the patient.
