Abstract
AIM: To compare the efficiency and safety of amniotic membrane graft (AMG) as an alternative to conjunctival autografting (CAG) in pterygium surgery.
METHOD: Study was conducted during period 2019 to 2021 in which 70 patients of different age group were included. Patients were randomly selected and divided into two groups of 35 each. One group was undergo pterygium excision with AMG using fibrin glue and the other group undergo pterygium excision with CAG using fibrin glue.
RESULT: Graft edema was seen more among the CAG ,3 cases (8.57%) than AMG, 2 cases (5.71%), Clinically insignificant( P value= 0.64).Graft edge recession was seen more in CAG,4 cases(11.42%) than AMG,2 cases(5.71%),clinically insignificant(P value=0.39).Recurrence rate was slightly low in AMG, 2 cases(5.71%) than AMG,3 cases(8.57%),clinically insignificant(P value=0.64).
CONCLUSION: Both AMG and CAG method are equally effective treatment with comparable recurrence rate, graft edema and graft edge recession.
