Abstract
Purpose: To report Clinical and demographic profile of uveal coloboma. Methods: Cross-sectional hospital-based study between 2010 to 2021 of 9.275 patients. Results: 58 % males, 50 % unilateral, prevalence higher in lower socio-economic status (0.54%) and rural geography (0.39%). Most common type was retino-choroidal coloboma in 8,049 (82.77%) , followed by iris coloboma in 2,219 (21.89%).Type 4 in 7,049 (57.23%) eyes and type 2 in 3,685 (29.92%) eyes. 5,736 (39.35%) eyes had a visual impairment of blindness (>20/400) followed by mild or no visual impairment (<20/70) in 2,920 (20.03%) eyes. In the 2,322 (15.93%) eyes that required a surgical/ laser intervention, cataract surgery was performed in 951 (6.52%) eyes, vitreo-retinal surgery in 661 (4.53%) eyes followed by LIO photocoagulation in 357 (2.45%) eyes. Conclusion: Uveal Coloboma is more common in males, during the second decade of life and is predominantly unilateral. The most common type is retino-choroidal coloboma.
