Abstract
Aim: To study the demography, histopathological evaluation and treatment modalities of Ocular Rhinosporidiosis
Methods: 31 patients were included who were diagnosed with ocular and adnexal rhinosporidiosis. The conjunctival and lid mass were excised completely. Diagnosis was confirmed by histopathology. All the cases were treated by surgical excision with cautery of the base. This Study was conducted under the aegis of declaration of Helsinki.
Results: The most common site was conjunctiva (61.3 %), followed by lid (25.8%). Male gender, low socioeconomic status, bathing in rivers and ponds were found to be strongly associated with oculosporidiosis. Recurrence rate after surgery was 3.22%.
Conclusion: Recurrence can be avoided by a complete surgical excision coupled with cauterization of the base of lesion. Public health education might help to reduce the incidence of this disease in community.
Key words: Ocular Rhinosporidiosis, Surgical excision
