Abstract
Aim:To compare gonioscopy and AS-OCT in detecting angle closure of different quadrants.
Methods:Cross-sectional observational study of 100 patients >40 yrs with no past ophthalmic history.Systemic and ocular examination f/b gonioscopy and AS-OCT done. ACA is closed if posterior trabecular meshwork is not seen on gonioscopy using scheie system, on AS-OCT it’s closed if there is contact between iris and angle wall.
Result:Excluding poor image quality eyes,90 right eyes were studied. The closed-angle in at least 1 quadrant was 57% on AS-OCT and 31% on gonioscopy.Frequency of closed-angle by AS-OCT vs gonioscopy was 46% vs 30% superiorly, 38% vs 23% inferiorly, 15% vs 12% nasally, 11% vs 13% temporally respectively. 42 of 360 quadrants closed on gonioscopy but open on AS-OCT and 92 of 360 quadrants open on gonioscopy were closed on AS-OCT.
Conclusions:Superior quadrants tend to be more closed on gonioscopy as well as AS-OCT but closed ACA tend to be detected more by AS-OCT than gonioscopy.
