Abstract
We astudied the immediate post-operative profound visual loss (loss of 4 or more snellen’s lines of loss of light perception) in patients with advanced glaucoma with split-fixation and the factors that impacted the recovery of vision in 190 eyes. Only mean deviation (MD) on 24-2 showed significant impact on the recovery. There clusters were identified using k-means clustering process: Cluster 1:-13.58 to -23.31, Cluster 2: -23.96 to -30.19 and Cluster 3: -30.34 to -36.10. Cluster-1 recovered their vision at 1 month of post-surgery whereas in cluster-2 the complete recovery took place at 6 months of post-surgery. In case of cluster-3, this data never showed statistically significant vision recovery throughout the post-surgical follow-up up to 24 months. This highlights the risk of permanent visual loss in patients with high MD and need for utmost care in such eyes while performing trabeculectomy in such eyes.
