Abstract
PURPOSE:To report an unusual presentation of metastatic breast carcinoma with unilateral infiltrative optic neuropathy and choroidal metastatic deposits.METHODS: A 41-year-old woman with history of adequately treated ductal type adenocarcinoma of right breast presented with diminution of vision in right eye.Examination revealed unilateral optic nerve infiltration with multiple choroidal deposits at posterior pole. The findings were confirmed in FFA and CE-MRI.RESULTS:Patient was diagnosed as unilateral infiltrative optic neuropathy with concurrent choroidal metastasis secondary to breast carcinoma and referred to oncologist for further management.CONCLUSION: Breast carcinoma is a common source of ocular metastasis with varied presentation based on site of metastasis.Unilateral infiltrative optic neuropathy with concurrent choroidal deposits as initial manifestation needs to be considered as differential diagnosis and as a potential cause of severe diminution of vision in such cases.
