Abstract
An infant of 1 year in age was brought to us by his mother with the complaintof outward protrusion of right eyeball on crying.Mother told about use of forceps during the delivery. To rule out anydeformity a CT-scan was performed and it showed Dysplasia of the right sphenoid wing.A soft tissue lesion was seen involving the intraconal compartment and apex of right orbit causing axial proptosis of eyeball. The lesion seemed like an orbital plexiform neurofibroma. Sphenoidwing dysplasiaoccurs in 3-7% of patients with neurofibromatosis type1 The typical radiological features are partial or complete absence of the greater wing ofsphenoid. This condition may result in temporal lobe herniation into orbitalcavity producing pulsating exophthalmos. The patient wasreferred immediatelyto aNeurosurgeonfor surgicalcorrection. We are reporting this case so that early diagnosis and treatment can be given to such patients and vision can be saved as these lesions mightcause compression of the opticnerve.
