Abstract
Aim: To compare silicone with hydroxyapatite implant following evisceration
Methods: Prospective observational study of 12 evisceration patients done during 2019-21.In GroupA-silicone and groupB-hydroxyapatite implant used (6+6).Evisceration with sclera modification(ant and post sclerotomy) done.MRI orbit done 6 months post-surgery.Outcome measured in terms of implant migration/extrusion/exposure, socket infection, ocular mobility and conjunctival dehiscence.
Result:1 of 6 silicone implant had extrusion and socket infection while none of hydroxyapatite implants had it. Ocular mobility-maximum in hydroxyapatite than silicone implants. Higher rate of conjunctival dehiscence in hydroxyapatite compared to silicone implant but early management avoided extrusion.
Conclusion: Hydroxyapatite have more ocular adhesion than silicone implant so less chance of extrusion as shown by MRI. Hydroxyapatite implant have good success rate without major complication as compared to silicone implant.
