Abstract
This case report demonstrates very rare presentation of orbital infection caused by Pythium insidiosum. Drug therapy for deeply invasive infection by this organism has been ineffective in the past and has been cured only by surgical debridement. Presented here is a case of 41-year-old immunocompetent female who presented with redness, watering, swelling and complete ptosis in her left eye for 2 months after undergoing evisceration at another institution. Computed tomography revealed residual infection and so excision biopsy was performed which revealed invasive orbital Pythium insidiosum. Considering the status, patient was planned for exenteration. Post exenteration, the socket healed well and MRI at 6 months showed no foci of infection.
