Abstract
Introduction: Orbital mucormycosis is an aggressive angio-invasive fungal disease of the orbit. Begins in the sinuses and erodes into the orbital cavity.
Case Report: A 33 year old male patient presented with pain and swelling in right eye since 3 days. Patient had history of COVID19, taken oxygen therapy and intravenous steroids. No H/o diabetes mellitus. On examination, there was axial proptosis, upper lid edema with diffuse conjunctival congestion with chemosis in right eye. Investigations revealed right rhino orbital mucormycosis. Right endoscopic sinus surgery with medial wall orbitotomy and orbital decompression was done. Postoperatively, there was improvement in symptoms and signs.
Discussion: Awareness to warning symptoms, signs and early diagnosis, indications of surgery and post-surgical management, may optimize outcome of ROCM in COVID19.
Conclusion: Inculcating a protocol-based strategy by a multidisciplinary team and a prioritized Code-Mucor approach is the key to success.
