Abstract
Aim: To identify the presenting and epidemiological features in ocular myasthenia. Method: Retrospective study of all patients presenting with ptosis who were positive for ice pack test. We correlated the symptoms with ice pack positivity, neostigmine test, RNS test and AchR Ab test, wherever available. Results: Over a period of 7 years, 63 cases were identified as myasthenia. Ocular findings were the first presenting feature in most (84%). The average age at diagnosis was 57 y, with the youngest being 5y and oldest 81y. A majority had limited ocular disease (93%) and rest had systemic features too. 2 young patients were additionally diagnosed to have thymoma (3%). A small proportion of the patients (16%) were negative for neostigmine test, RNS test and AchR Ab test, but showed improvement with pyridostigmine treatment.
