Abstract
AIM: To evaluate the clinical profile of retinochoroidal coloboma in pediatric patients and complications associated with it.
METHODS: Cross sectional study of 50 patients <20years of age, with retinochoroidal coloboma, attending outpatient department of tertiary eye centre. RESULTS: Out of 50 patients, 56% were males and 58% were bilateral cases. The incidence noted was 56%, 20%, 14% and 10% in the <5y, 5-10y,10-15y and 15-20y age groups. 26% were associated with microphthalmos. Complications were more frequent with type 1 and 2 Ida Mann types, with 60% having cataract, 44% RRD, 16% retinal breaks, 16% choroidal neovascularization and 10% with lens subluxation. Systemic abnormalities were noted in 6%. CONCLUSION: Retinochoroidal coloboma may have variable presentations and the associated complications may require surgical or laser management as required. These patients may also need screening for systemic associations.
