Abstract
34 year old male presented to our OPD with chief complaint of outward deviation of right eye for the past 10 years. It was precipitated by prolonged near work and was often accompanies with headache. He was prescribed glasses for distance but did not use them regularly. There is no other significant history.
On examination, patient was fusing during less than 50% of the examination suggesting poor control.
Prism bar cover test without patching: Distance – Right intermittent exotropia 45 PD
Prism bar cover test with prolonged patching: Distance – Right intermittent exotropia 80 PD
Baggolini striated glasses showed fusion unless broken by prolonged patching
Rest anterior and posterior segment examination was normal.
A diagnosis of right intermittent exotropia with poor control was made and he was planned for staggered recession and resection surgery targeting half of the deviation in the first sitting and the remaining in the second sitting.
