Abstract

.Introduction: Penetrating trauma, a frequent referral to tertiary eye care centre often plagued with poor visual outcome.Methodology: 31 Penetrating trauma patients were selected from patient records from January,21 and prospectively included from emergency and OPD upto August,21.Visual outcome measured, comparing with factors like time since injury,foreign body,if any and type etc.Results:Report within 6 hours(p 0.02),even with foreign body, paracentral injury,pure corneal injury, female produced better results finally.Long term follow up with stepped approach produced better results than combined procedures.Age,infection didn’t have much effect.Forign body, metallic had better prognosis than vegetative ones(p value0. 001). Breach in post capsule worsens the prognosis.Conclusion:Early intervention,proper referral chain,immediate intervention as applicable can bring better than 6/24 VA finally.with one medical college per district can change the outcome of penetrating trauma.
