Abstract

A 55 year old female with recurrent episodes of pain and redness both eyes for 3 years, presented with similar complaints and loss of vision in right eye following cataract surgery done 1 year back. On slit lamp examination, both eyes had keratic precipitates, annular synechiae, iris bombe, shallow irregular anterior chamber, cells 1+, flare 2+. Right eye showed dilated non reacting pupil with intraocular lens. Left eye had secclusio pupillae and cataractous lens. Fundoscopy showed advanced glaucomatous cupping in right eye. On gonioscopy right eye showed total peripheral anterior synechiae and left eye had angle closure. Mantoux test was positive. Laser peripheral iridotomy was done in left eye and anti tuberculosis treatment was started. Her signs regressed with improvement of vision in left eye. This signifies the importance of adequate preoperative control of inflammation before cataract surgery to achieve successful surgical results.
