Abstract
A 24 year old healthy female presented with bilateral diminution of vision since 3 years. On presentation the Best
corrected Visual Acuity in both her eyes was 6/24 and N18.On examination both the eyes were noted to have large macular holes of 700µ in diameter with schisis & posterior pole retinal detachment extending beyond the arcades. A thorough systemic evaluation failed to yield an etiology for the same.Surgical intervention in the form of Pars plana vitrectomy with brilliant blue assisted Inner limiting membrane peeling, creation of a separate drainage retinotomy for accelerated evacuation of subretinal fluid at the posterior pole & silicon oil insertion was performed in the right eye followed by left eye at an interval of 1 month.Silicon oil removal was then performed for the patient 6 weeks later.4 months from the initial presentation the BCVA in the patients’ both eyes was 6/18 for distance N12 for near with the successful closure of the holes.
