Abstract

18yr old male patient presented with chief complaints of sudden painless diminution of vision in the left eye followed by right eye since 2 days which worsened over time. Patient was detected dengue positive 1 week back. Ophthalmological examination showed vision in right eye-4/60, left eye-2/60. Anterior segment examination was within normal limits. Fundus examination revealed exudative retinal detachment and macular edema in both eyes which was confirmed with OCT. HFA showed bilateral central scotomas.In view of patient’s diminished vision, i.v steroid therapy was given for 5 days followed by oral and topical steroids tapered gradually. Further follow up examinations showed improving visual acuity and resolving macular edema.Though rare, exudative retinal detachment and related visual complications may follow post -viral infections like dengue. Hence ophthalmological evaluation is of utmost importance for early detection and timely management to prevent serious visual impairment.
