Abstract
The move to phacoemulsification is fraught with many complications. A new design of a side angled chopper and Forward angled dialler to improve the safety profile and increase the efficacy and efficiency of phacoemulsification was accepted amongst the top innovations of 2020 at AIOC. We have now studied the complication rates with the redesigned chopper and dialler in residents and also with the surgical outcomes of experienced phaco surgeons and young surgeons making a transition to phacoemulsification. Comparative data indicate a reduction in the complication rate and phaco times in surgeries done by Residents and helped in transition to phaco chop for both residents and young surgeons. There was also a reduction in phaco times in the hands of experienced surgeons. The new design of Chopper and Dialler have significantly reduced the complication rates and smoothened the transition to phaco for trainee surgeons.
