Abstract
Purpose: To evaluate efficacy of Drug-Repository CL in subjects with bacterial keratitis (BK)
Methods: BK was randomized in 1:1 ratio into Gr-1 (Antimicrobials only), Gr-2, (antimicrobials + CL, with a central reservoir alongwith fenestrations to enable drug-capture). Both received standard moxifloxacin regimen. BK severity scores & Pain (PAS) were compared at 12Hr, Days-1,3,5 & 14, in addition to Drug Retention Studies
Results: 20 cases. PAS in Gr-2, improved by 5.29 points, 2 points in Gr-1 at Day-1(p<0.001), by 6.86 points in Gr-2 at Day-3(p<0.001). BK resolved by 0.66mm at 12Hr in Gr-2, 0.09mm in Gr-1 (p<0.0001), 1.27 in Gr-2, 0.41 in Gr-1(p<0.0001) by Day-1, 2.06 in Gr-2 Vs 1.09 in Gr-1(p=0.013) by Day-3. Vision improved by 1.5 lines by Day1, 2lines by Day3 in Gr-2, whereas commenced by Day 3 in Gr-1.Drug in pre-corneal space was evidenced upto 4Hrs Conclusion: Drug-Repo CL, prolongs antimicrobial contact time over the lesion, hastens to heal BK, improved patient tolerance
