Abstract
Purpose: To evaluate the Swedish interactive thresholding algorithm-faster (SFR) 24-2C visual field strategy in early glaucomatous optic nerve head (ONH) changes.
Material and methods: Cross-sectional study of 52 eyes with early ONH changes (neuroretinal rim abnormality with or without vertical cup to disc ratio (VCDR) ≥0.5:1). Participants underwent SFR 245-2C. ONH changes were determined by slit lamp biomicroscopy and stereophotography.
Results: Foveal sensitivity (p=0.009) and visual field index (p=0.045) had inverse correlation with VCDR. Central scotomas correlated positively with increased VCDR (p=0.035) and neuro-retinal rim changes. Mean duration of test per eye was 2.79±0.33 minutes. False positives (p= 0.092) and visual field index (p=0.05) had a negative correlation with VCDR.
Conclusion: Suspicious optic nerve head changes could be validated with field changes (SFR 24-2C strategy) for an early diagnosis of glaucoma.
