Abstract
Purpose: To compare the safety, efficacy and surgical outcomes of using a novel silicone plate with autogenous auricular cartilage (AAC) in reconstructing the upper lid in malignant tumours.
Method: A prospective, comparative, interventional study over18 months was conducted on two groups of 20 patients each. All patients have undergone the two-stage Modified Cutler Beard procedure with AAC being used as a tarsal substitute in one group and a novel silicone plate in the other.
Results: The follow-up period ranged from six months to one year. Pre and post-operative MRD1,PFH, and LPS action values are the same in both groups. Lid thickness and contour are better in the silicone plate group.
Conclusion: Our study revealed better cosmetic outcomes regarding lid thickness and contour in the silicone plate group.Absence of a second surgical site and reduced surgical times are the additional advantages. This novel silicone plate is the most promising tarsal plate replacement in the future.
