Abstract
Introduction– Onodi cell is a posteriorly positioned ethmoid cell that pneumatises laterally or above the sphenoid sinus, adjacent to the course of optic nerve. Mucocoeles of onodi cell may cause compressive symptoms of the optic nerve leading to transient visual loss with field defects, or permanent blindness Purpose- To report a case of onodi cell mucocoele and its management Methodology– We describe a case of 27 year male presenting with sudden onset right orbital pain and loss of vision. On examination disc oedema and visual field defect was present in this eye. He was provisionally diagnosed as optic neuritis and started on steroids. But patient showed no improvement in vision. Imaging (MRI) revealed findings suggestive of Onodi cell mucocoele Result– Patient underwent decompression surgery of the mucocoele and his vision improved post operatively Conclusion- Onodi cell mucocoele, although rare should be considered as a differential in sudden onset decreased vision with disc edema
