Abstract
PURPOSE-To study the epithelization of orbital socket and compare post-op outcome in eyelid sacrificing(ES) and eyelid sparing(ESP) techniques of exenteration in CAM.
METHOD-A prospective interventional comparative study was conducted at a tertiary COVID hospital between May to July 2021, where 35 patients with nil vision were taken for exenteration and divided into 2 surgical groups namely ES(G1) and ESP(G2), followed up for 4 weeks.
RESULT-Out of 35 patients,18 and 17 cases were included in G1 and G2, of them 27(77.1%)were male and 8(22.9%)were female. By 4 weeks medial wall showed granulation in 18(100%)and 17(100%) and lateral showed no granulation in 2(11.1%)and 1(5.9%) granulation in 16(88.9%)and 16(94.1%).
CONCLUSION-In our study, ES technique with spontaneous granulation had better socket epithelialization compared to ESP with wound gapping and delayed healing, socket healing was early in medial wall compared to lateral wall while wound gaping was more prevalent medially.
