Abstract
Retrospective analysis was done of 1470 pediatric cataract surgery record. Reason to do POBH was noted. In all complicated cataract surgery a foldable 3-piece IOL was implanted into the bag/ciliary sulcus with PPC and POBH.
Total (n=139, 9.45%) children underwent for POBH, which includes traumatic cataract including ruptured anterior capsule and PCR (29), secondary IOL (32), membranectomy with IOL (21), absorbed cataract (11), uveitic cataract (8), anterior capsulorhexis extension (26), large rhexis (6), posterior lenticonus (3) and anterior megalophthalmos (3). The mean age was 7.4 ± 5.1 years. Anterior segment inflammation was noted in 18, corneal oedema in 8 and rise in IOP in 3. One case of IOL drop, 1 need IOL exchange and 3 developed PCO at 6 months follow up with mild tilt in 2 cases. This study adds on the current literature as a new indication of POBH in paediatric cataract surgery. POBH is safe and feasible option for children that have complicated cataract surgery.
