Abstract
Purpose – We examine the risk factors, presentation, route of spread, management and outcomes of CA-ROCM at a tertiary center, following the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic.
Method – A cross-sectional study on 100 confirmed ROCM cases with recent or active infection with COVID-19, was done from May – August 2021. The demography, risk factors, clinical features, diagnostic workup – microbiological, radiological, pathological; treatment options, and outcomes of the cases were analyzed.
Results – 19% had active COVID and 81% had recent infection. 25% had no history of oxygen or steroid use in COVID treatment. 60% cases had type 2 diabetes with a mean HBA1C of 10.31%. Orbit was involved in 58% cases. Systemic Amphotericin-B(AmB) and endoscopic debridement was done in all cases, retrobulbar AmB in 11%, orbital exenteration in 18% and neurosurgery intervention in 3%. Survival rate was 95%. A recurrence was noted in 25 cases.
