Abstract
AIM– Comparison between 0.7 mg intravitreal OZURDEX(IVD) versus 4mg/0.1 ml intravitreal triamcinolone acetonide(IVTA) in macular edema due to retinal vein occlusion(RVO).METHOD– Patients with macular edema >350µm central macular thickness(CMT) due to RVO were randomized to receive either IVD or IVTA.Main outcomes measured were mean change in best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and mean reduction in CMT.Patients were analyzed at baseline,1 week,1,2,3,6 months post injection.RESULT– 18 patients were enrolled in which 8 received IVD and 10 IVTA.The mean improvement in BCVA and CMT was 0.61 logMAR and 277µm in IVD group and 0.54 logMAR and 282µm in IVTA group which was statistically significant(p<0.01) but the difference between the two groups was not observed.40% patients had intraocular pressure ≥25 mmHg in the IVTA group whereas none in IVD group at 6th month.CONCLUSION– Both OZURDEX and IVTA are effective in retinal vein occlusion with OZURDEX having lesser side effects.
