Abstract
INTRODUCTION: In India prevalence of Limbal Stem Cell Deficiency(LSCD) is 1.5 million.Any corneal damage can induce LSCD.Symptoms of LSCD may include reduced vision, photophobia, watering, redness and pain.In advanced cases persistent epithelial defects are seen.SLET is a technique with advantages over other methods.
PURPOSE: To see surgical outcomes and quality of life in patients of partial U/L LSCD following simple limbal epithelial transplantation.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: 35 patients of diagnosed LSCD were taken who underwent SLET following detailed history and preoperative evaluation in 6 months. The effects of the surgery were observed and condition of the patient was evaluated on days 90and180.
RESULT: Out of 35 patients most common cause of LSCD was pterygium.Post surgery recurrence observed was 8.6%.Changes seen on day 90 to 180 were significant and showed improvement in vision.
CONCLUSION: SLET has good surgical outcome with recurrence between 1-12% with improved quality of life
