Abstract
Introduction: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) has a variety of associated complications, both micro- and macrovascular. Microvascular complications includes retinopathy, nephropathy and neuropathy. DR is one of most the common microvascular complication, and one of the leading causes of preventable blindness.
Aim: Study the correlation of various grades of DR with microalbuminuria & dyslipidemia.
Method: Patients with DM were enrolled and underwent fundus examination, FFA. Blood/urine samples were sent for dyslipidemia and microalbuminuria assessment.
Results: LDL-Cholesterol levels showed a positive correlation with increasing severity of diabetic retinopathy (p < 0.05). The presence of microalbuminuria along with diabetic retinopathy is a strong indicator of disease progression and showed positive correlation (p < 0.05). Observation: Microalbuminuria have positive association and it is a marker of disease progression whereas role of dyslipidemia and the progression of DR is unclear.
