Abstract
Purpose- Fibromyalgia is a chronic disorder characterized by widespread pain, tenderness, and stiffness of muscles and associated connective tissue structures. It is often associated with blurry vision, dry eyes and eye pain. We present 2 case reports of patients with fibromyalgia presenting with ocular symptoms. Methods-A complete dry evaluation including Schirmer’s tests, Tearfilm Break-Up Time (TBUT) and fluorescein staining were done. They also underwent meibography and in vivo confocal microscopy. Results- Dry eye evaluation revealed low Schirmer’s and TBUT values. In vivo confocal microscopy displayed microneuromas, along with a decrease in corneal nerve fibre density (CNFD) and corneal nerve branching density (CNBD). Conclusion- The ocular surface must be evaluated for changes in corneal nerve morphology in patients with fibromyalgia. This could have implications in the management of eye pain and dryness in these patients.
