Abstract

Purpose: To evaluate the surgical outcome of pediatric glaucoma in a tertiary eye care center.

Methods: Retrospective review of records of 76 eyes of 68 children <18years who underwent glaucoma surgery from 2010 to 2020 was done. Results: Primary congenital glaucoma (30.26%) was the most common type of glaucoma, followed by post traumatic glaucoma (19.73%). The procedures performed included Trabeculectomy (44.73%), Trabeculotomy with Trabeculectomy (19.73%) and Primary Ahmed Glaucoma valve implantation (17.10%). Bleb or surgical failure was noted in 28.94% of eyes. Complete success and qualified success was noted to be 21.05% and 40.78% respectively. Conclusion: Pediatric glaucoma poses a great challenge when it comes to surgical management. Although majority of cases respond to treatment, a significant number of cases especially secondary glaucoma remain refractory in spite of multiple interventions.
