Abstract
Case report-A 32 yr old patient presented to us with complaints of whitish discoloration of black part of left eye along with photophobia, redness and decreased vision since 2years.
On examination, a dirty white elevated lesion measuring 10*5mm in the inferior half of cornea covering 2/3rd of pupillary area was noted. Superficial and deep vascularization seen in inferior 180 degree and adjacent limbus appeared normal. Excision biopsy along with amniotic membrane transplantation was done.
The histopathology report showed Stratified squamous epithelial hyperplasia. No dysplastic changes.
Postoperatively, patient had corneal scar and no recurrence was noted in 1yr follow up.
Corneal epithelial hyperplasia has many etiologies and includes response to toxic irritants applied topically, microbiological infections, nutritional deficiencies, heritable defects, and exophthalmos due to space-occupying orbital masses. These are usually associated with stromal inflammation and neovascularization.
