Abstract

Part-time occlusion is established treatment for anisometropic amblyopia. Present study is retrospective and prospective analysis over 2 years of visual outcome with part-time occlusion in different age groups and types of anisometropic amblyopia in children without strabismus, ocular pathology or astigmatism above 0.50D. Visual success was defined as improvement of 2 or more LogMAR lines. Age 5-13 (mean 7.62) years and followup 6-15 (mean 8.98) months.50 children were included, 32 anisohypermetropic and 18 anisomyopic amblyopes. For anisohypermetropia mean visual improvement was 2.25 lines and success rate 59.37%. For anisomyopia mean visual improvement was 2.27 lines and success rate 61.11%. For age group 5-8 years, mean visual improvement was 2.85 lines and success rate 71.42%. For >8 years, mean visual improvement was 1.5 lines and success rate 54.54%. Thus, part-time occlusion helps in significant visual improvement in children <8 yrs and anisomyopic amblyopia.
