Abstract

Introduction:Periorbital foreign bodies are rare and invariably followed by complications like abscess and granuloma formation depending on the size,location,nature and duration of treatment.This is a case of a foreign body in the periorbital area exhibiting minimal complications although the time from impaction to presentation was 3 years.Case report:A 40-year-old female presented with history of impaction of a wooden piece in the left superior-temporal periorbital region while chopping firewood.Although she was asymptomatic she complained of increase in size of swelling and dull aching pain since 1 month.CT and B scans were confirmatory of the foreign body and surgical excision was done.Conclusion:It is important to take into consideration history and symptomatology of patients as in our case,where an unusual foreign body was detected at an unusual site remaining inert with minimal complications for a long period of time.Prompt workup and diagnosis could prevent grave complications.
