Abstract

Introduction- Acute zonal occult outer retinopathy (AZOOR) is a rare clinical entity. Knowledge is limited to isolated case reports in Asia. We evaluated the clinical profile in a series of AZOOR patients from a tertiary eye care center in south India

Method -An observational case series of seven patients with clinical features and multimodal retinal imaging suggestive of AZOOR was done over a one year period

Results – Fundus in some showing a faint intraretinal perifoveal ring. FAF showed typical trizonal pattern around the fovea. ERG showed a reduced scotopic and photopic response. SSOCT showed a trizonal involvement with loss of ellipsoid zone and the cone outer segment tip (COST) line. Six out of seven patients had good visual acuity. Only one patient had poor vision which correlated with greater retinal pigmentary changes at presentation

Conclusion – Multimodal imaging plays a pivotal role in making the diagnosis. We present the first largest series of AZOOR from south India
