Abstract

PURPOSE-To compare the efficacy of retropupillary fixated iris-claw lens (RPICL) and sutureless scleral fixated intraocular lens (SSFIOL) in patients of deficient posterior capsule DESIGN-Prospective comparative interventional study.MATERIAL AND METHOD-25 patients were enrolled and randomly allocated to Group A (n=15) who underwent RPICL implantation and Group B (n=10) who underwent SSFIOL implantation. Surgical time, complications and visual acuity were compared.RESULTS-The mean surgical time was 22.55+/-2.83 minute in Group A and 35.12+/-2.64 minute in Group B. Iris bleed (n=2) in Group A and slippage of haptic (n=4) in Group B occurred during surgery. Postoperative visual acuity was significantly improved and vision threatening complications were not observed in both groups .CONCLUSION-Both the lenses had good visual outcome but RPICL required less surgical time and expertise than SSFIOL implantation.KEYWORDS- Retropupillary iris claw lens, sutureless scleral fixated lens
