Abstract
The prevalence and pattern of ocular diseases varies amongst countries as well as within a country. Many ocular diseases if diagnosed early can prevent ocular morbidity. Aim is to study prevalence and pattern of ocular diseases in children presenting to tertiary centre of central India. Its cross sectional study conducted from June 2018-aug 2019. Total 1276 children were included. Ocular examination was done & disease noted. A p value of <0.05 was taken as significant. Results: Out of 1276 children, 505 belong to 7-10 yrs while 771(60.4 %) were of 11-14 yrs,of which 563 females(44%) and 713 males.Most common ocular morbidity was refractive error(51.1%) then adnexal infection(18%), followed by squint(8.3%),trauma(3%),congenital diseases(2.6%),amblyopia(2.4%) & miscellaneous(1.6%).Conclusion:Majority of ocular disorders are preventable and treatable. Most common is refractive error. We recommend school based screening programmes for timely detection and its correction.
