Abstract

Zoonosis is a disease or infection that can be transmitted naturally from vertebrate animals to humans or from humans to vertebrate animals. Dirofilaria are long, thin parasitic roundworms that infect a variety of mammals. Infection is transmitted by mosquito bites. The definitive hosts are domestic dogs and cats. Human beings are accidental dead end hosts, in which Dirofilaria larvae can develop into adult worms but the worms remain sexually immature and no microfilariae are produced. So far, very few cases have been reported from north India.

we present a case series of three cases of Dirofilaria, out of which two were Subconjunctival and one was subcutaneous. We did in toto surgical removal of live worm. The Worms were sent for direct microscopic examination for diagnosis of the particular Dirofilariasis species on the basis of characteristics of the nematode. Based on size, cuticular and internal morphologic features the worms were identified as adult Dirofilaria repens.
