Abstract
Dr. K. NARESH BABU
The recent technological advances have led to improvement in the quality of microsurgeries across various ophthalmic surgical specialties, leading to a high surgical success rate.
With a high load of blindness and an acute shortage of surgeons in our country, the surgeons have to operate for hours together. The awkward posture acquired while using the microscope binoculars to perform surgeries for long duration makes them prone to chronic neck and back problems. The recently developed 3D viewing systems allow the surgeons to operate in a “heads-up” position, which is more physiological and alleviates the physical stress sustained by surgeons on their back and neck.
The system not only provided better ergonomics but has other benefits over the conventional microscope. Like any other new technology, surgeons have been reluctant in accepting this alos. We intend to demonstrate the tips & tricks of performing various ocular surgeries and try to alleviate the apprehensions among surgeons.
